There are numerous factors that makes this a particularly exciting and dynamic period in the history of the Institute. These include a one of a kind completion of Health Canada approval for our manufacturing and testing facilities enabling students to gain GMP compliant recognition for their hands-on training; the increasing recognition of the high caliber and outstanding competence of our graduates by major pharmaceutical organizations; the international recognition of our full-time expert faculty who are engaged in both teaching and leading-edge industrial research; the exceptionally high graduate placement of over 92% in 2005; establishment of a number of pharmaceutical corporate internships for the benefit of our students and above all, the continuing growth and development of the Canadian pharmaceutical industry of which we are privileged to be part of.

PRESIDENT'S BIOGRAPHY Dr. Alexander MacGregor is the President and Dean of Faculty at the Toronto Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology – North America’s premier post-graduate institute of pharmaceutical technology and research. Dr. MacGregor founded the Institute in 1992 when he established and pioneered a didactic industrial program in pharmaceutical sciences and technology. He has over 15 years of experience in the design, development and clinical testing of bio-pharmaceutical products, including the implementation of pharmaceutical technology training and regulatory compliance. Over the last decade, Dr. MacGregor has trained over 50 faculty members and through his leadership the Institute has graduated over 2600 pharmaceutical professionals who themselves have become technologists and leaders in the pharmaceutical and bio-technology industries in Canada and world-wide.

Over his wide-ranging career, he has acquired international expertise in drug-development process, clinical research and regulatory affairs in Europe, North America and China. Dr. MacGregor is a passionate educator and an expert in pharmaceutical technology, and novel drug delivery systems. Prior to establishing TIPT Dr. MacGregor was a consultant to major pharmaceutical industries in Europe, Asia, and North America. He was the managing director of PharmClinical consultants and Transpharm International UK Ltd, a United Kingdom based group specializing in clinical testing and pharmaceutical drug licensing. He is currently the Chairman and Chief-Scientific-Officer of Orx Pharmaceutical Corporation – a Canadian bio-pharmaceutical company specializing in oral drug delivery of therapeutic compounds.

Dr. MacGregor continues to consult with international pharmaceutical and biotech industries, specializing in novel controlled release technologies, manufacturing technology, as well as continuing education in pharmaceutical technology, regulatory affairs and good manufacturing practice (GMP). He has conducted industrial national and international training to major pharmaceutical companies such as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Patheon, and Beijing Double Crane Pharmaceutical Company.

Dr. MacGregor received honours degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Wales, completed doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) research in Clinical Pharmacology at the Royal Post-Graduate Medical School, UK, and obtained a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in Biomedical Sciences from Pacific University, USA.

Among numerous awards and honors he received, Dr. MacGregor is the recipient of US, Canada and International patents in the field of drug delivery technologies, appointed the international pharmaceutical expert Advisor by the City of Beijing, China in 2000 and a recipient of the African-Canadian Achievement award in science and technology (2003). Dr. MacGregor currently has over six novel drugs undergoing clinical testing in the areas of diabetes, post-operative pain, epilepsy, anti-infective, cholesterol lowering, and congestive heart failure.

Dr. MacGregor is the founding member and chair of the Canadian Association of Pharmaceutical Technologists (CapTech), a member of several scientific associations like the prestigious Control Release Society and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He serves on board of directors of several biotechnology companies in Canada and US and an adjunct faculty at the department of Pharmacy, University of Technology, Jamaica. Dr. MacGregor is an active proponent of unity and empowerment within the African-Canadian community. His philanthropic efforts extends over a wide range of organizations including the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) , Association of Black Law Enforcer’s (ABLE), Mandela Children’s fund , United Way, Malvern Youth Club, South African Women for Women (SAWW) and various international aid groups.

Dr. MacGregor has published over 100 manuscripts related to his teaching and research.
